One thing I always regret when I was little was not being able to spend more quality time with my dad. He was always busy with his stuff, which didn’t include us kids. So, I always make sure that my kids spend time with their dad.
Doing projects together is big in our house, so when we were able to check out the book, Project Dad: Make Every Day An Adventure With Dad, the kids were excited to try it out! This book is full of fun projects that are easy to do and something that could fill a rainy afternoon, or even a lazy Sunday. Some projects include making your own explorer kit, having a backyard camp out, building a drawbridge castle, and more awesome activities. This can be done with both boys or girls, so don’t think it’s just for “dad and son”.
My daughter and the hubby decided to do the “Imaginative Questions” activity. This entails writing down all your questions on a piece of paper and then cutting them into little slips. Wrap the slips around a pencil to create a swirl that can uncurled when you pull the questions out. This activity will help develop an ongoing conversation with child and dad. This is something we need to work on in our house.
There is also an option for dad to put a couple of prize slips in the jar that say “You Win!” to keep the interest up. Both Emily and the hubby loved this little activity and I swear they did it for hours, which helped me get other things done around the house. Score for me!
