If you’ve ever visited my fashion and beauty blog, you’ve probably noticed that I have a huge love of fashion. Not only do I enjoy fashion for myself, I also enjoy learning about fashion trends and the history of fashion. When I was offered Tales from The Royal Wardrobe PBS DVD for review, I couldn’t wait to watch it.

Tales from The Royal Wardrobe PBS DVD
When I was growing up, my mother was fascinated by Princess Diana. I remember spending time watching her on television and flipping through books about the British royal family. In Tales from The Royal Wardrobe PBS DVD, Historian Dr. Lucy Worsley, Chief Curator at Historic Royal Palaces gives us a look at the royal wardrobes of kings and queens over the last 400 years.
Because the royalty are constantly in the public eye, it’s not as simple as grabbing a pair of jeans and a shirt from the closet. Their clothes have to project the right image and send the right message to their subjects. It’s more than just fashion. It’s about politics and their relationship with their subjects and how fashion portrays different messages.
Not only do you have the chance to look at actual museum pieces that date back hundreds of years, you also get to watch as Dr. Worsley is actually dressed in these historic fashions from lacing up the stays to the panniers and the final silk gown. I cannot imagine trying to maneuver myself through English court wearing a pannier that could add several feet to your hips on each side! I spend way too much time trying to keep my hips slim LOL.
Of course, there is also discussion about men’s fashions on the Tales from The Royal Wardrobe PBS DVD. There were all sorts of rules about what amount of money you needed to earn to wear silk or fur or the type of hat or cut of suit that was appropriate.
If you have an interest in history or fashion, I definitely recommend you watch this DVD. “TALES FROM THE ROYAL WARDROBE” will be available on DVD July 14, 2015. The DVD has a run time of approximately 60 minutes and an SRP of $24.99. The program will also be available for digital download.

Oh this looks good and another PBS offering I must add to my list.. The fashion design offices were in the same building as the nutrition offices of my college (which was my major). It all use to be called Home Economics, but they’ve since changed that (thank goodness). I would always marvel at their projects which they had displayed in the show cases, and really appreciated all the hard work that went into designing clothes and wardrobes.
I cannot imagine actually sewing any of them. Wow what a lot of work!
