With all the hot weather that’s arrived in Vermont, I’ve been spending most of my spare time reading on the couch with a cold glass of iced tea. I just do not enjoy this hot, humid weather. At times like these, there is nothing I enjoy more than relaxing with a good book.

Death, Taxes, and a Satin Garter by Diane Kelly
In the eleventh installment of the Death and Taxes series, Tara Holloway juggles her duties as maid of honor and her latest mission for the IRS, which makes the former task seem like a piece of (wedding) cake. Her target is radio host Florence “Flo” Cash, star of “The Flo Cash Cash Flow Show.” Not only has Flo been giving her listeners shady tax advice, she’s set up an elaborate barter system that leaves Uncle Sam out of the equation―and Tara tied in knots.
While Flo flouts the IRS at every turn, Tara has yet another case to tackle: a catfishing Casanova who’s relieved several lonely ladies of their cash, credit cards, and dignity. When her best friend’s big day arrives, it’s all Tara can do to keep from crying uncle. But when Tara snatches the bridal bouquet and her boyfriend Nick catches the satin garter, could Tara’s days of filing single tax returns be over?
My thoughts:
This isn’t the first book that I’ve read by Diane Kelly. If you haven’t already, check out my review of Death, Taxes and Green Tea, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Tara Holloway is the star of the Death, Taxes, and …. series by Diane Kelly. Tara is an IRS special agent who solves crimes about people who are cheating on their taxes. She gets into all sorts of trouble during the investigations which makes the story so much fun.
In Death, Taxes, and a Satin Garter, she is investigating a radio show host who gives out financial advice. Tara believes that Flo is earning more money than she’s declaring by bartering for services. At the same time, she’s trying to find out information about a scam artist who is scamming women out of money. Add to this that she’s going to be the bridesmaid in her friend’s wedding, and she’s just a little more than stressed.
I love the lighthearted mysteries that Diane Kelly writes. Tara Holloway is such a fun character. She’s cute, funny and has a little bit of an attitude. She’s definitely not what I’d expect an IRS agent to be which is probably why I enjoy reading about her so much. If you enjoy mysteries with a bit of romance and sass, you’ll want to read this one.
