If you enjoy animal movies, you’ll be glad to learn that Rare Creatures of the Photo Ark is now available on Blu-ray! Marty and I love watching animal movies where we can see them in their own environment. It’s a great way to “travel” without ever leaving our home.

Rare Creatures of the Photo Ark by PBS
Renowned National Geographic photographer Joel Sartore is creating a Photo Ark, a digital collection of the world’s rare and at-risk mammals, fish, amphibians, birds, reptiles, and insects. Follow Sartore as he documents threatened species in the wild, at zoos, and in nature preserves and hear from scientists as they reveal surprising information about why ensuring the future of these animals is so critical.
From a 500-pound, 150-year old giant tortoise refusing to get ready for his close-up, to an elusive bunny taking refuge near an active US Navy airstrip, it’s all in a day’s work for Sartore. He knows he is in a race against time, for some species are disappearing before he can photograph them. Rare looks at factors driving extinction, including deforestation, rising sea levels, invasive species pollution, and human development, which all impact creatures essential to the world’s ecosystems. Journey with Sartore across the globe as he seeks to inspire people through photography to want to protect the many species of our planet.
My thoughts
So, if you enjoy watching nature films, you’ll definitely enjoy Rare Creatures of the Photo Ark. The photography is truly stunning and the movie is very well done. I love that there is a wide range of creatures from all over the world. You can see everything from the smallest insect to larger creatures like tigers. I love the mission that National Geographic has to help people be aware of animals that need to be protected. Hopefully, people will be inspired by this film to make a difference. There are a few heartbreaking scenes so I would not watch this with younger children. If you have younger children, they will enjoy the book, Animal Ark.
