The Best Christmas Pageant Ever Review
The Herdman kids are absolutely the worst. They lie, they steal, they bully…and they’ve hijacked the town Christmas pageant. Directed by Dallas Jenkins (“The Chosen”) and based on the international bestseller by Barbara Robinson, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever follows six siblings who sneak into church searching for snacks and walk away with the lead roles in the town pageant.
Grace (Judy Greer) is directing the performance for the very first time; she and her daughter Beth (Molly Belle Wright) and husband Bob (Pete Holmes) are less than amused. But the play’s mischievous stars might unwittingly teach a community the true meaning of Christmas.

My review
If you’re looking for a Christmas movie with some serious holiday spirit and laugh-out-loud moments, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever might just make your holiday movie list. Directed by Dallas Jenkins (yes, The Chosen Dallas Jenkins) and starring the chaotic Herdman kids, this new adaptation brings Barbara Robinson’s classic tale of holiday mayhem and misfits to life in the best way possible.
The Herdman kids are notorious in town—they lie, steal, fight, and seem to have zero idea how to behave in public, let alone in a church. But when they crash a church service looking for free snacks and somehow end up cast in the Christmas pageant, the entire town is in for an unexpected twist.
Judy Greer plays Grace, the well-meaning and slightly overwhelmed director who is suddenly responsible for managing the Herdman whirlwind. Watching her try to wrangle these kids into something that resembles a pageant is hilarious and a little nerve-wracking. Her reactions, along with her daughter Beth (Molly Belle Wright) and husband Bob (Pete Holmes), are the perfect foil to the Herdmans’ wild antics.
What’s amazing is that under all the chaos, this movie has a big heart. The Herdmans might start out as the worst kind of trouble, but they bring something real to the Christmas story, and you start to see how the whole town softens around them. The theme of acceptance and looking beyond appearances sneaks in beautifully and gives you those warm holiday vibes without feeling forced or cheesy.
So, should you go see The Best Christmas Pageant Ever? Absolutely. It’s funny, heartfelt, and it’s got the kind of spirit that makes Christmas movies feel classic. Grab your family, bring some popcorn (and maybe a tissue), and get ready for a fresh spin on holiday chaos. You’ll laugh, you might tear up, and you’ll definitely leave with a little more Christmas cheer.
