Hosting your friends for a dinner party has got to be one of the absolute best parts of adulthood. You get to fill your house with your favorite people and share some amazing food, without worrying about splitting a massive restaurant bill at the end of the night (going out to eat really is SO expensive now!). But sometimes you might want to push the boat out a bit, maybe it’s a special occasion and you want to make things even more memorable rather than a casual night in with nibbles. Here are some ideas!

Pick a theme
Themes are definitely not just for kids birthday parties. Setting a theme immediately makes the night feel special and it gives everyone something funny to talk about the exact second they walk through your front door. It could be a cuisine theme like Mexican food where you style your decor and food to match. Or you could do something silly and ask people to dress up based on a theme, there are loads of party theme ideas online, It completely removes the stiff pressure of a formal dinner and it sets a super playful tone.
Consider a pot luck party
Cooking an entire massive three course meal from scratch for a huge group can leave you totally stressed out and trapped in the kitchen while everyone else is having fun, even if you’re well organised. But a pot luck can change everything, you just ask every person to bring a dish they’ve made with love and suddenly you have a gorgeous feast without breaking the bank or getting yourself stressed out.
Bring out some games
Keep the room energy moving with some games and entertainment! Once the food is gone you could bring out some hilarious party games to get everyone chatting and laughing. Trivia is basically a guaranteed crowd pleaser especially if you make up ridiculous highly specific questions about your own friend group to see who has the best memory. You can split the room into competitive teams. You could match the game to your theme, something like a custom murder mystery game for your murder mystery evening?! But even a super simple card game works perfectly to keep everyone engaged so nobody starts looking at the clock.
Head outdoors
Now that the weather has well and truly warmed up, it’s so nice to be able to get out into the garden. And that means you have the chance to host all kinds of fun things, like barbeques, garden picnics, afternoon teas and alfresco dinners. Make sure you have enough seating for everyone, and if the party will go on through the evening then lighting is important to think about as well. Having your do outside can definitely make it more special and memorable, you could light a firepit or chimnea and add an outdoor speaker to make the vibe even better.
