Animal Conservation Book for Children: Animal Ark

Animal Conservation Book for Children

It’s not an easy topic to explain to children, let alone to young children. But, it’s something that we need to discuss so future generations don’t forget.

A howling wolf, a stalking tiger, a playful panda, a dancing bird – pairing the stunning photography of National Geographic photographer Joel Sartore with the delicate poetry of Newbery award-winning author Kwame Alexander, this lush picture book celebrates the beauty, diversity, and fragility of the animal world.

Featuring more than 40 unique animal portraits, the pages invite kids to explore each creature’s markings, textures, and attributes in stunning detail, while calling on all of us to help protect each and every one. Three picture-packed gatefolds inside showcase even more familiar and exotic species. These images are part of Sartore’s lifelong project to photograph every animal in the world, with special attention given to disappearing and endangered species.

My thoughts:

Animal Ark: Celebrating Our Wild World in Poetry and Pictures is a gorgeous hardcover book with a dust jacket. Unlike many animal books for children, instead of drawings or cartoons, this animal conservation book for children has stunning full-color photographs of the animals it features.

First of all, the photographs are printed on glossy paper that really make the colors pop. Your child will be able to see what these animals would look like in the wild. There are gorgeous, up-close details on even the smallest beetle.

The author wrote the poetry in Japanese Haiku style which means that it’s easy for your child to understand. Each poem is three lines of seventeen syllables. Most of all, this style of poetry is perfect for a younger child.

Your child will love looking through this book over and over again. And, it’s a fantastic gift idea for any holiday or as a way to encourage conservation and a love of nature.

So, take a few minutes to look at more of my children’s reviews.
