Cooks Country from America’s Test Kitchen is one of my favorite cooking shows on PBS. It’s loaded with family friendly recipes that real people eat. While I may enjoy watching chefs make fancy meals, they aren’t things that my family is going to eat. When I want new recipes my family will enjoy, I look to the classics.

Cooks Country from America’s Test Kitchen
Cooks Country from America’s Test Kitchen features the best regional home cooking in the country and relies on a practical, no-nonsense food approach where family friendly recipes are scientifically re-imagined for the modern home cook. Join host Christopher Kimball and your favorite chefs from America’s Test Kitchen as they uncover blue-ribbon regional specialties from across the country, “lost” recipes, and classic fare in need of a makeover. And as always, find out which cookware, kitchen tools, and supermarket foods are worth the dough, and learn more about the history of American food.
Season 8 contains 13 different episodes of Cooks Country. There is so much more to enjoy with this program than just recipes. One of the reasons that I enjoy this show is that you get to learn more about different kitchen tools and cookware. There are times I’ve seen something on television or on the internet and wondered whether it was worth buying or not. You get to see comparisons of different brands and learn whether or not they’re worth buying.
Another thing I enjoy about this series is that when you get the DVD, there are printable versions of all 26 recipes that are included in the show. So if you want to try them, you can print them off and have a hard copy to work from. There are a lot of great recipes included on this DVD but a few of my favorites are the Muffin Tin Donuts (for my husband) and the Brussels Sprout Salad (for me). My husband is looking forward to trying the Tex-Mex Cheese Enchiladas.
There are 345 minutes of programming on 2 DVDs which means there is almost 6 hours worth of shows. This DVD would make a great gift for the cook in your life.
Ellen is a mom of a 25-year-old son and 30-year-old daughter. She is Grandma to one adorable toddler. In what little spare time she has, she loves to read, watch movies, and check out the latest toys and games.
I enjoy watching this program on our local PBS station and I try to have pen and paper in hand because I know they will address a recipe I will want to experiment with. Oh Santa… I would love a copy of this in my stocking.
It’s a great DVD. Hope Santa brings you one!
I will have to check this show out, I’ve never heard of it. We enjoy watching cooking/food shows.
I bet you’d enjoy it, Julie!
