This book by celebrity sportsman David Fisher (‘the world’s best rope jumper’ according to Ripley’s Believe It Or Not) gives your primary and middle school children a fun way to stay fit all year long – indoors and out. It includes 94 cool jump-rope tricks starting with easy activities to get six-year-olds started and goes all the way up to show-off tricks you won’t believe your twelve-year-olds can do. Each trick is presented with step-by-step photographs with simple, clear instructions your kids can use to master them. And the wide format lays open so they can review each trick, just before they start jumping.

Cool Jump-Rope Tricks You Can Do! by David Fisher

I was anxious to find out what jump rope tricks were going to be taught in Cool Jump Rope Tricks You Can Do! by David Fisher, the world’s best rope jumper (according to Ripley’s Believe It or Not). I have seen some of his videos on YouTube (see at end of review) that were cool. This was a perfect time as well, because my nine year old has never jumped rope before. I know! She just has had no interest, and I used to love to jump rope when I was little, so I wanted to get her excited to try it.

The book is divided into sections with non-jumping skills, to mid-level and finishes with higher-level moves that help improve your skills. We bought two ropes and I started with my daughter at the beginning. It took her a bit, but she got the hang of it and said some tricks were easy to learn. I tried more tricks then she did and I think I liked the “can-can” best. Sorry, we didn’t get photos, but if you are interested in learning tricks, the book really helps show you with photos.

I really think my daughter had fun learning how to jump rope and learning new tricks as well. I think the tricks gets her more interested in keeping up with it. I like that it allows her to get exercise as well (and off the iPad!). Though, we will be looking online for some videos that might cover this book to get some visual learning to make it easier, I also think this would be a great way to get the whole family involved in a fun family evening of jump rope fun!

  1. This is cool! My kids just started jump roping together this year where one holds each end and one jumping in, etc. They would like to find some great tricks

  2. I think this would be useful for even younger than 6, for my baby sitting crowd. At least some reviewers thought so and wishlisted on Amazon so I would remember to get this one or take another look.
