Emma in the Night by Wendy Walker

With the kids off at work and friend’s houses, I spent a relaxing weekend reading Emma in the Night by Wendy Walker. I love that the kids are old enough to be independent because it means I have more me time. Of course, some days it means more stress but you have to take the good and the bad. Since I love thrillers, this is the perfect way to unwind.

Emma in the Night by Wendy Walker

One night three years ago, the Tanner sisters disappeared: fifteen-year-old Cass and seventeen-year-old Emma. Three years later, Cass returns, without her sister Emma. Her story is one of kidnapping and betrayal, of a mysterious island where the two were held.

But to forensic psychiatrist Dr. Abby Winter, something doesn’t add up. Looking deep within this dysfunctional family Dr. Winter uncovers a life where boundaries were violated and a narcissistic parent held sway. And where one sister’s return might just be the beginning of the crime. Learn more about the book.

My thoughts:

Cass and Emma disappear one night and everyone assumes they drowned at the beach. But, the bodies are never found. One night, three years later, Cass returns without Emma. The FBI question her and she reveals that Emma was pregnant and ran away to meet a couple who promise to help her keep her baby. Unfortunately, their motivation wasn’t to help at all and the girls were kept prisoners until Cass escapes to get help.

Once Cass arrives home, the FBI and forensic psychiatrist are brought in to try to piece together Cass’ story and find Emma and her baby. As Cass reveals bits and pieces of what happened while she was gone, you get more and more of a glimpse into her mind and who she is.

As the story goes on, little pieces made me wonder if there was more to her story than she was saying. And, I just could not put the book down until I figured out the truth.

The entire story is like unraveling a ball of yarn, one inch at a time. You just cannot stop until the very end. And when you get there, the ending is nothing like what you expected. Buy it today.
