I’ve never been a huge fan of bugs, but I tried really hard not to pass that on to the kids. I always encouraged them to learn more about our natural world whether that was trees, flowers or bugs. Orkin provided a prize for me and one for this giveaway.

Fun with Bugs
There are many different ways to encourage kids to have fun with bugs. Please encourage them to be gentle with them so that they can be returned safely to their environment.
- Read a book. There are many different children’s books about bugs from The Very Hungry Caterpillar to Are You a Lady Bug? After you’ve read the bug, see if you can find one outside.
- Search for bugs outside. Try looking under rocks or in vegetation to find books in your yard. Make sure you don’t disturb them.
- Collect a bug in a critter keeper to observe. Make sure it has air and a few leaves to snack on and be very, very gentle. Return it to nature once you’ve observed it.
- Make ants on a log. Take celery and fill it with peanut butter and then top with raisins to make your own ants on a log.
- Make a caterpillar with your child’s thumbprint. Just dip their thumb or finger into washable paint and put three or four next to each other to create a caterpillar.
As a parent, you may not be as fond of bugs as your child, especially if you find them in the house. Back-to-school time is a great time to #LearnWithOrkin about pest prevention. Take the Pest Prevention Pop Quiz to find out if you know how to think like a pest!

mosquitoes only need a little water to multiply
WHAT? Seriously the mosquitoes only need a bit of water… Urg…
Don’t have standing water around to lessen the amount of mosquito infestation. Or don’t live in NJ – hahahahahaha
I learned that in order to get rid of mosquitos I need to get rid of standing water. Which is hard for us since we have 2 ponds in the yard!
