About the film
Known as America’s Poet, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow leads an idyllic life until the day his world is shattered by tragedy. With a nation divided by Civil War and his family torn apart, Henry puts down his pen, silenced by grief. But it’s the sound of Christmas morning that reignites the poet’s lost voice as he discovers the resounding hope of rekindled faith.
Where can I see this?
I Heard the Bells has a very limited run. You can see it in theaters only on December 1, 3, and 4. That is Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday. Make sure you find out more here and get your tickets now.
Who will enjoy I Heard the Bells?
If you enjoy Christmas movies, this is an absolute must. But it will also appeal to history buffs. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow lived in the 1800s, so this movie is a fascinating look at life during this time period. It takes place during the time of the Civil War.
He was so overwhelmed by what was happening in the world around him and his son’s injury in the war that it inspired him to write this song. It rekindled his faith in God and the season, which we can all relate to today.
My review
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow has always been one of my favorite poets, so this was such a fantastic movie to see. In a world that is very much divided, as it was when he lived, this movie is something many people will relate to.
Watching him lose his faith was so heartbreaking especially to see what it did to him. But the ending was truly inspirational. The song just tells the story so well. If you haven’t already, listen to the song. And, watch the movie.
