A romantic-drama, OLD FASHIONED centers on Clay Walsh, a former frat boy who gives up his reckless carousing and now runs an antique shop in a small Midwestern college town. There, he has become notorious for his lofty and outdated theories on love and romance as well as for his devout belief in God. When Amber Hewson, a free-spirited young woman with a restless soul, drifts into the area and rents the apartment above his shop, she finds herself surprisingly drawn to his strong faith and noble ideas, which are new and intriguing to her. And Clay, though he tries to fight and deny it, simply cannot resist being attracted to her spontaneous and passionate embrace of life. Ultimately, Clay must step out from behind his relational theories and Amber must overcome her own fears and deep wounds as the two of them, together, attempt the impossible: an “old-fashioned” and God-honoring courtship in contemporary America.

Old Fashioned DVD
Marty and I enjoy watching DVDs after the kids go to bed. Sometimes, we grab some snacks and pretend we’re on a date – you know that thing you did before you had kids? This month, we chose the Old Fashioned DVD which is subtitled “A retro modern love story” and is all about an old fashioned courtship in today’s modern world.
Clay used to be a quite a player in his college days but he’s given it up to live a life that is more in line with God’s ways. He runs a small antique store now in a small Midwestern town. He’s known in the town for being a bit odd due to his old fashioned theories on love and romance.
Amber is a free spirit who drives from place to place, moving on before she forms attachments or when things become difficult. She drove until she almost ran out of gas and arrived in the same small town that Clay lives in and ended up renting an apartment from him.
Despite her intentions, Amber finds herself attracted to Clay. At first, she thinks his ideas are a bit odd but she starts to understand where he’s coming from and appreciate what he believes in. It will take a lot of effort but they both work toward an old fashioned style courtship to see if they are meant to be.
Marty and I really enjoyed this movie. I could really relate to the two main characters and even the protagonists were very real and believable. It was really easy to get into the movie and believe that this was something that could really happen. I love that the relationship wasn’t all roses and sunshine. It was real with real struggles the way relationships really are. The end left me in tears and my husband enjoyed it as well. Definitely recommend you watch this one.
Ellen is a mom of a 25-year-old son and 30-year-old daughter. She is Grandma to one adorable toddler. In what little spare time she has, she loves to read, watch movies, and check out the latest toys and games.
I’m from a small Midwestern town and would love this story. Sadly dating today has become nothing more than hooking up. I long for the old fashioned dating days. A good Christian message I wish more young people could view.
I bet you would really enjoy this, Deb, and I totally agree!
That sounds like a good family film. My kids are mature enough to handle dating and similar themes, and I like the idea of showing them dating isn’t always like they see on tv.
I agree, Crystal. That’s really important.
This sounds like a great show to watch with a good message. I’ll have to check this out to watch with my hubby.
Hope you both enjoy it, Danielle.
I always love a good date film so I will remember your suggestion. I particularily like that both your husband and you enjoyed it and would recommend it. We are always looking for a new moral title.
We really did, Shelley.
Sounds like a nice story line. Sounds like a realistic story line. Glad you enjoyed it. I need to check it out.
We really did. Hope you have a chance to watch it.
