Pocketful of Poesies is unlike any publication you have ever previously perused and that is quite a phenomenal pursuance. Pocketful of Poesies is a pick of perfectly plangent dark tales. An astonishing array of very short stories that take alliteration to a completely new level with absolutely EVERY word beginning with the same letter. This mind blowing volume of amazing alliteration, such as “Annie and Adam’s Adventure at Arthur’s Animal Aid Association,” “Betty Bets Billy ‘Bout Blowing Bigger Bubbles Better,” and “Colin Couldn’t Comprehend Chafing Cream” WILL blow your mind. The alphabet may have 26 letters but there is no rule that each word you use has to start with a different one each time and Toula Mavridou-Messer proves just that in Volume One of Pocketful of Poesies.
Pocketful of Poesies – Absolutely All Artful Alliterations
If you aren’t familiar with the word alliteration, let me explain. An alliteration is a style of writing that uses the same letter at the beginning of each word when you write. You’re probably familiar with “Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers.” That is an alliteration. Pocketful of Poesies – Absolutely All Artful Alliterations is a collection of short stories that are entirely written as alliterations – yes the whole book.
While I’ve seen a few sentences and even a few short rhymes written as alliterations, I never imagined that anyone would be able to write an entire short story using alliterations. These stories are silliness at its best and will definitely make you giggle. The illustrations are fun and the presentation is unique and enjoyable. I would not say that this collection of short stories is intended for children but tweens and teens as well as adults will definitely enjoy it. The collection of short stories would be perfect in a homeschool unit on alliteration for older kids. The short story length ranges from one to several pages.
My personal favorite (and I definitely recommend you read the whole collection) is Danny Doesn’t Date Divas. Seriously hysterical and a book I highly recommend.
Ellen is a mom of a 25-year-old son and 30-year-old daughter. She is Grandma to one adorable toddler. In what little spare time she has, she loves to read, watch movies, and check out the latest toys and games.
I’ve tried my hand at a few but only 3 or 4 words in a row. A whole book, wow, and I bet so funny too. Good lessons for kids learning new words or for just a chuckle.
It is super funny, Deb. I really enjoyed it!
What an interesting book! I’ll have to check it out!
Thanks, Janet. It’s a great one!
