About the book:

When a mysterious and destructive magical force strikes near Sarasota, Florida, the chief of police assigns his best investigator and arguably strongest wizard, Josephine O’Connor, to the case. As Josephine studies and investigates this mysterious phenomenon, she learns that a young woman has become a lab rat to develop stronger wizards. As Josephine tries to help the woman control her abilities, it becomes apparent that the new wizard has a volatile power that may prove impossible to contain.

Josephine and her friends face their greatest challenge yet when a hostile AI known as APU 81, created by an advanced civilization, resurfaces and targets them for termination. APU 81 has plotted for centuries to enslave humanity and the time has finally come for it to carry out its sinister plans.

Terramezic Energy by John O’Riley

Terramezic Energy by John O’Riley is Book 4 of the Grumpy Old Wizard series. I have been lucky enough to have reviewed books 1, 2 and 3 (Grumpy Old Wizards, Corruption and Dark Energy).  Josephine is a retired Category 6 wizard who now works with the police to solve mysteries involving magic. She and her two friends Alice and Helen are really in their sixties but thanks to magic look like they are in their twenties.

Book 4 picks up where Book 3 left off.  Alice and Helen are home again and APU 81 is still out there somewhere. The three women are preparing to battle Artificial Intelligence when Josephine is told by her boss that there is a huge disturbance near Sarasota, Florida that they have to investigate.  APU 81 is trying to gain control over an ancient facility so that they have control over the terramezic energy.

While Josephine is working on the case, she finds a member of Brenda Kirkland’s family that has just realized her powers.  Brenda’s powers were stronger than anything known before and caused huge amounts of destruction.  Now, Josephine has to teach Yvonne how to control her powers before she is taken advantage of and the whole thing happens again. Meanwhile, APU 81 is trying to destroy Josephine and her friends as part of its evil plans.

Terramezic Energy is just as much fun to read as the previous books.  It’s loaded with action and I literally could not put it down because I wanted to find out what happens next. I rarely enjoy a series past the first book or two but the Grumpy Old Wizard series is proving an exception. I cannot wait until book 5 to see what happens next in Terramezic Energy by John O’Riley!

  1. I recognized his name, perhaps by screenplays he’s had success developing. Didn’t know he wrote the Grumpy Old Wizards series. How great that he worked in book stores!
