A Chef’s Life Holiday Special gives you a look into Chef Vivian Howard’s holiday table. I love to cook and enjoy learning about what other people serve during the holidays. There are all sorts of regional differences in what we enjoy eating during the holiday season. A product was provided for this feature, but the story is my own.

A Chef’s Life Holiday Special Movie Review
This holiday season, the popular series A Chef’s Life invites viewers on a journey to discover and rediscover holiday traditions. Chef Vivian Howard hosts a holiday to remember at her home in Eastern North Carolina as she creates a Southern holiday feast steeped in her family’s Christmas and Chanukah traditions.
Having spent most of her adult life in the kitchens of highly-lauded restaurants, Vivian has rarely celebrated the holidays during busy Decembers. This year, she and her husband Ben Knight are determined to give their toddler twins a traditional holiday experience, cooking, laughing, and yes, crying their way through Southern traditions new and old. In the program Vivian discovers that mistletoe is traditionally shot out of a pecan tree, experiences her first hog killing, and leads a “tacky Christmas sweater” night with the restaurant staff at Chef and the Farmer.
I loved watching A Chef’s Life Holiday Special with my husband. He’s from Texas, and I’m from Vermont and the holiday traditions we remember from our childhood are very different. It was fascinating to see what Chef Vivian Howard’s holiday celebrations were like. Her husband is Jewish so in addition to learning about her Christmas celebration; we got to learn about her Chanukah celebration. I loved being able to see her make several holiday dishes. Plus, she got together with her sister who loves to bake to make a red velvet cake. I had no idea there was so much work involved in making that.
If you enjoy cooking shows, you’ll want to watch A Chef’s Life Holiday Special. It also includes a special feature recipe PDF.
“A CHEF’S LIFE HOLIDAY SPECIAL” is available now on DVD. The run-time of this program is approximately 60 minutes and its SRP is $24.99. The program will also be available for digital download.
Ellen is a mom of a 25-year-old son and 30-year-old daughter. She is Grandma to one adorable toddler. In what little spare time she has, she loves to read, watch movies, and check out the latest toys and games.
I love reading about the regional differences too! It’s amazing how a simple “time zone” can change how people prepare for a holiday meal, isn’t it?”
That’s very true!
