I’m sure every parent has had the joy of having some kind of childhood memory of E.T.A. Hoffmann’s, The Nutcracker. I remember my childhood home being filled with Nutcracker soldiers of all sorts of sizes at Christmas time. I used to be afraid of them when I was very little. But, I grew to appreciate them after learning about The Nutcracker story.

The Nutcracker by E. T. A. Hoffmann
I’ve never been to the ballet version but would love to someday and take my kids to see it as well. They have all read about it in some form or another.
From Wikipedia:
The Nutcracker and the Mouse King (German: Nussknacker und Mausekönig) is a story written in 1816, by E. T. A. Hoffmann. Young Marie Stahlbaum’s favorite Christmas toy, the Nutcracker, comes alive. And, after defeating the evil Mouse King in battle, whisks her away to a magical kingdom populated by dolls. In 1892, the Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and choreographers Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov turned Alexandre Dumas père’s adaptation of the story into the ballet The Nutcracker, which became one of Tchaikovsky’s most famous compositions, and perhaps the most popular ballet in the world.
The Nutcracker: based on the story by E.T.A. Hoffman, and illustrated by Valeria Docampo.
My review
In this nutcracker based story, you join Clara on her Christmas Eve adventure as she steps into a world of toy soldiers and beautiful fairies. This classic Christmas tale is brought to life by Valeria Docampos magical illustrations. This book is such a simple, yet charming story that will fill children’s dreams, and bring parents back to their childhood fantasies. How your child’s imagination will wander with towns made of sugar and icing!
The kids loved the book and wanted me to read it again to them just so they could look at all the wonderful illustrations again. I didn’t mind because I wanted to look at them again as well. Come on, there’s a kid waiting to come out in all of us!
I think this book would make a wonderful stocking stuffer gift for any little one who loves the story of The Nutcracker. Buy it today!
