When I was a little girl, my mother enrolled me in ballet classes. I was very shy and I’m sure that she thought she was helping. Unfortunately, in addition to being very shy, I was also very uncoordinated. I gave it my best shot – probably because she made me go – until I learned that we would have to perform in front of the parents. At which point I promptly refused to ever go back again. I never lost my love for ballet. I just realized I’d never be a ballerina.

American Ballet Theatre PBS DVD
American Ballet Theatre is a classical ballet company based in New York. It was founded in 1937 and is one of the world’s leading classical ballet companies. American Ballet Theatre A History on PBS is a 75-year history of the American Ballet Theatre from its earliest days to the height when it became one of the most respected dance companies in the world.
This DVD will let you look inside the American Ballet Theatre. You will be able to see archival photos and footage from people like Agnes de Mille and Mikhail Baryshnikov plus you’ll be able to watch live performances in Paris and Havana.
I didn’t realize that there were different styles of ballet and I really enjoyed watching the classical ballet performances. I also learned about the history of ballet and that it was originally a masculine art in the court of Louis XIV. You will also learn about the differences between how the Russian ballet was performed and how it was performed in the United States.
I truly found the American Ballet Theatre PBS DVD fascinating not only for the gorgeous costumes, choreography, and music but also for all of the histories I learned. I had no idea that so much history was tied to ballet.
AMERICAN BALLET THEATRE: A HISTORY” will be available on DVD July 14. The DVD has a run time of approximately 104 minutes and an SRP of $24.99. The program will also be available for digital download.

I had no idea that there was a dvd like this from PBS. The history of ballet would be so fascinating to watch.
I learned a lot from it. Definitely enjoyed it.
I love watching ballerinas dance – they are so eloquent and poised. I’m too clumsy to have every done that. I bet that DVD will make young girls want to try it.
I’m sure it would. They looked so graceful!
This looks lovely… I’m sure any ballet fan would enjoy having this in their home entertainment collection.
Thanks, Ashley. I’m sure they would.
I never had an interest in ballet, but did enjoy some tap and jazz lessons. I’ll bet that this will be a big hit for ballet fans.
I’ve always loved watching tap dancing. Such fun!
This looks intriguing to watch, I’m not very familiar with ballet history.
It really was, Stephanie!
I love watching ballet. I have a few fitness DVD that show what they go through to train and it looks grueling. I still do many of the ballet exercises and they work!
I love classical music so listening to that and watching ballet is just about my idea of a perfect way to relax. This looks lovely.
I’m sure they must be a workout!
I would love to watch this! I love watching ballerinas! They move so beautifully!
They definitely do, Heather.
