Jill Gardner—owner of Coffee, Books, and More in the tucked-away town of South Cove, California—is not particularly thrilled to be portraying a twenties flapper for the dinner theater murder mystery. Though it is for charity…
Of course everyone is expecting a “dead” body at the dress rehearsal…but this one isn’t acting! It turns out the main suspect is the late actor’s conniving girlfriend Sherry…who also happens to be the ex-wife of Jill’s main squeeze. Sherry is definitely a master manipulator…but is she a killer? Jill may discover the truth only when the curtain comes up on the final act…and by then, it may be far too late.
Dressed to Kill by Lynn Cahoon
Jill Gardener has to go to the dinner theater murder mystery as a flapper and she’s not that happy about it. Her boyfriend, Greg is the local law enforcement and he’s going as her mob protection. Nobody expected to find a real dead body at the party.
It turns out that the deceased is the boyfriend of Jill’s boyfriend’s ex-wife, Sherry. Sherry isn’t Jill’s favorite person at all even more so that she’s her boyfriend’s ex. As much as Jill tries, she can’t get any information out of her boyfriend, Greg, to find out who killed Kent. Sherry seems to think that Jill can convince Gregg she’s innocent but Jill sees through her manipulation.
As Jill uncovers more and more clues, the story gets even more interesting. This is the first book I’ve read by Lynn Cahoon but it won’t be the last. I love the setting the author chose of a small touristy coastal town in California. It was fun learning about the different shops in town and their owners and how they all interacted with each other. I enjoyed watching Jill and Greg’s relationship grow and change throughout the story. I honestly could not put this book down. I kept trying to figure out who the killer was with each page I turned but I was completely surprised at the end.
Dressed to Kill by Lynn Cahoon is definitely a must read and I’ll be looking for more of her books in the future.
Ellen is a mom of a 25-year-old son and 30-year-old daughter. She is Grandma to one adorable toddler. In what little spare time she has, she loves to read, watch movies, and check out the latest toys and games.
