Music often influences how I feel. It can relax me or wake me up. It can make me sad or give me a different perspective than I started with. My music tastes are eclectic and I really enjoy just about every type of music I’ve heard. Both children spent years in band so one of the types of music I’ve listened to quite a lot is jazz. Both my daughter and son have played a variety of jazz instruments from the trumpet to the trombone.
Hood Smoke is a band that hails from Chicago and while not new to the music scene, they are new to me. Their music is described as having funk driven grooves, rock inspired motifs, and jazz influences. Band members include Bryan Doherty, Sarah Marie Young, Michael Caskey, Chris Siebold, Rob Clearfield, Andrew Toombs, Dave Miller, and Javier Saume-Mazzei.
The CD Regular Neurotic contains 11 songs:
- Hermit
- Summer Throwback
- Never Suffering
- Why Do I
- Regular Neurotic
- Thinking What I’ve Been Thinking
- Stoop Lady
- Serene Company
- Everything That’s Happened Yet
- Hebe & Geras
- Periwinkle Night
Hood Smoke has a very unique sound that somehow reminds me of Sly and the Family Stone or Aretha Franklin. The songs on Regular Neurotic are a nice mixture of music. Summer Throwback kept my feet tapping to the beat while Stoop Lady is more of a mournful crooning sound with a great classic rock feel to it. I really enjoy the entire range of sounds that Hood Smoke captured on the Regular Neorotic CD. If you’re a fan of music that sounds like Aretha Franklin, Frank Zappa or Sly and The Family Stone, listen to Hood Smoke in the video below and then pick up a copy of Regular Neurotic.
Ellen is a mom of a 25-year-old son and 30-year-old daughter. She is Grandma to one adorable toddler. In what little spare time she has, she loves to read, watch movies, and check out the latest toys and games.
I like the cut Everything That’s Happened Yet, but not much for the rest of the tunes, (only listening to the samples). Sometimes music grows on me though! I’m a huge 70s music fan so I’m a bit quirky.
I think Stoop Lady was pretty neat. Definitely a great selection!
