I love TV and I spend a fair amount of time unwinding at the end of the day in front of my favorite television programs. I’m one of those people that loses themselves entirely in a program. I jump when I’m startled. I cry when I’m sad. I picture myself in the program. The Showrunners DVD I just watched changed all of that.

How the Showrunners DVD Changed the Way I Watch TV
The Showrunners DVD by PBS that is all about the art of running a TV show. The showrunner is the chief writer/producer on a tV series and, in most instances, the show’s creator. Waging a daily battle between art and commerce, showrunners manage every aspect of a TV show’s development and production, including the creative, financial, and logistical.
Showrunners is the first-ever feature-length documentary film to explore the fascinating world of American television’s showrunners and the creative forces aligned around them. Meet the people responsible for creating, writing, and overseeing every element of production on one of the United State’s biggest exports – television drama and comedy series, including JJ Abrams (Felicity, Alias), Hart Hanson (Bones), Mike Kelley (Revenge), Robert & Michelle King (The Good Wife), Damon Lindelof (Lost), Jonathan Nolan & Greg Plageman (Person of Interset), Bill Prady (The Big Bang Theory), Kurt Sutter (Sons of Anarchy), Janet Tamaro (Rizzoli & Isles), Joss Whedon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), and many others.
Watching this Showrunners DVD really opened my eyes to how much goes into creating a popular television series. They are generally written by a group of writers – not just one writer and there is a huge concentration on the writing process. Instead of looking at only one episode, writers look at the entire season and creating a television series often requires more creativity than creating a movie for that reason.
This show also gave me a look at how things like network pressures, deadlines, binge watching and advertising come into play when creating a television series. Social media and the internet also have an impact on how a television series is developed and unwinds during the season.

Ellen is a mom of a 25-year-old son and 30-year-old daughter. She is Grandma to one adorable toddler. In what little spare time she has, she loves to read, watch movies, and check out the latest toys and games.
Oh i would enjoy this. I’ve participated in a few live tweets when the show’s writers are tweeting along with the show. You get so much more out of it but it’s a huge time-waster, as I usually work on the laptop when I watch and live tweeting is hard to do with multitasking! It’s fun when I can do it though.
It really is, Deb! It’s an experience!
