Visit the Seven Wonders of Brazil from HomeI have always wanted to see the seven wonders of Brazil. Brazil is a country that has always fascinated me because it is so rich in history and culture. Brazil is a mix of Portuguese, African, indigenous Indian, and southern European influences. Since it’s doubtful I’ll get to visit the Seven Wonders of Brazil, this DVD is an excellent way to enjoy the country from home.

The Seven Wonders of Brazil DVD journeys into the heart of Brazil, a country where football is worshipped like a national cult, to explore a much older religion—Brazilian Christianity. The religion has existed since the country was colonized by the Portuguese almost 500 years ago and is a mixture of influences—African beliefs, indigenous Indian rituals, and the folk Catholicism of the southern Europeans.

Robert Beckford, a British academic theologian, explores the incredible spiritual diversity of Brazil by traveling to the country’s seven wonders. From the spectacular and iconic Christ the Redeemer statue to the samba beat of the Carnival, at each wonder, Robert looks at a key ingredient that makes up the melting pot that is Brazilian Christianity.

The Seven Wonders include:

  • Christ the Redeemer, Rio de Janeiro
  • Sao Francisco Church, Salvador
  • Teatro Amazonas (Amazon Theatre and Opera House), Manaus
  • SaoPaulo See Metropolitan Cathedral, Sao Paulo
  • Igreja Presbyterian Cathedral, Rio de Janeiro
  • Metropolitan Cathedral of Our Lady Aparecuda, Brasilia
  • Rio Carnival, Rio de Janeiro

The photography in Seven Wonders of Brazil is truly stunning. I loved being able to see some of the gorgeous sites from Brazil from the comfort of my living room. Christ the Redeemer was beautiful, and we were able to see it both from the ground and from an aerial view. We even got a brief look at the service they hold there. Seven Wonders of Brazil combined the history of Brazil with current happenings for a very enjoyable and informative hour.

  1. I’ve only briefly seen pictures of Brazil and haven’t caught any in depth coverage like I have of many countries on travel shows. I don’t imagine I’ll ever visit either so this would be great to watch.
