Are there subtitles?
Yes, the movie includes a soundtrack and subtitles in English. You do not need to know American Sign Language to watch the film. But, having this film created entirely in ASL brings the story of Jesus to many people who have been unable to watch it easily in the past.
My thoughts
The story of Jesus’ life is one of my favorite movies. I’ve watched many different versions because they are so inspiring. I love that there is now a movie that is created for the deaf community.
I don’t know ASL and am not deaf. But, I was able to enjoy this film as much as any other version. The subtitles help to give more information when needed.
There is no spoken dialogue in this film so it was an experience that I hadn’t had before. It let me focus more on the scenes in the movie and what was happening than in movies where there is spoken dialogue.
I highly recommend Jesus: A Deaf Missions film whether you know ASL or not. It’s a movie that everyone can enjoy. Buy tickets today to see JESUS: a Deaf Missions film in theaters starting June 20th!
