I’m not sure if you’ve gotten on the “rubber band wagon” or not, but we certainly have. My daughter, Emily, has about every color of rubber band you can think of and about a million bracelets. Heck, she even became a mini entrepreneur at school awhile back and sold a few dozen to her friends.

Lately though, she’s kind of backed off from making any bracelets, so I’ve been finding leftover rubber bands everywhere. I’m either accidentally vacuuming them up or pulling them out of the cat’s mouth. So, when I found out about Rubber Band Mania, I was thrilled to find that you can use those cute (but annoying) rubber bands for other things too!

This activity/craft book has tons of projects for girls AND boys of all ages. Yes, it has bracelet projects to create, but it also shows you how to make toys, belts, artwork and even musical instruments! It even throws in fun and interesting facts and trivia about rubber bands. Surprisingly, Emily wanted to make a bracelet first, so we looked at all the options to make one different then we make them. We usually use our fingers (ouch!) or pencils.

The book showed different and easier ways to loop them and we even made a ring (why didn’t we think of that?) They showed a way to use push pins and other ways to easily whip up a bracelet and make other designs we didn’t know you could. Emily quickly made up a few bracelets. I like this pink and white bracelet she made using the technique showed in the book.

Next, Emily wanted to do the tie-dye shirt craft with rubber bands, so since we had the stuff on hand, we decided to try it. Here is the end result. I thought it turned out very cool (you will want to check out how the rubber bands are used to make neat shirt designs).

This book came in the nick of time for us since we have begun to run out of things to do during the day. Believe me, if you need something to entertain your child for HOURS, you need to get this book. Emily has plans to do every project in the book. I’m just glad to be able to finally use up all of our rubber bands! : )

  1. Thanks Teresa, I put this on my wish list, along with another of her books available for pre-order (Amazon), Duck Tape Mania. Big fan of duct tape! I have a rubber band bracelet holder that I won and haven’t made one bracelet yet, so better get crackin’, or snappin’. The snap paintings I saw as a preview page from this book looks like a great craft too. This book looks like a winner overall.

  2. My son has made some bracelets and rings with the rubber band kits at a friends house, he even made me one. I love this tie dye shirt, he would have fun making one too.
