How to Clean Carpet Stains
We’ve rounded up the best cleaning solutions for carpet stains that little kiddos make. Please keep in mind that these carpet cleaning solutions work best on a fresh carpet stain.
Magic Marker
Magic marker is easier to get out of your carpet than you think. Simply spray a generous amount of a non-oil based hairspray on the stain and leave it there for a few minutes. Once a few minutes pass begin to dab the stain with a clean cotton cloth. Repeat this process until the stain is completely removed. This will not work if you use an alcohol-free hairspray.
Paint
Water-based paints are easy to remove from carpet if they are still wet. Just blot the paint up with a cotton washcloth until the stain is gone. Now that you know how to clean carpet stains, your kids may enjoy this Disney art kit.
Nail polish
Nail polish can be removed from your carpet the same way you get it off of your nails. That’s right, if you have a bottle of 100% acetone nail polish remover then you are in luck. Pour nail polish remover over the stain and let it sit there for a few minutes. You can then proceed to dab the stain up with a clean cotton cloth.
Gum
While gum is not a stain, it may end up in your carpet from time to time. The trick to getting it out of your carpets is ice. Take an ice cube and press it into the gum. Do this until the gum becomes brittle and can easily be picked off the carpet.
Playdough
Playdough isn’t a stain either, but it will make your carpet look dirty. Allow the playdough to dry completely. That’s because it’s a lot easier to get dry playdough out of your carpet than wet play dough. Once it’s dry, vacuum it up. Loosen any remaining play dough with a stiff brush and vacuum the spot again.
Fruit juice
Fruit juice can be swiftly removed from your carpet or rug with white distilled vinegar. Begin by pouring the vinegar over the stain and allow it to sit for a few minutes. After a few minutes have passed, dab everything up with a clean cloth. Repeat until the stain is gone.
