His Only Son
This movie recounts one of the most controversial moments in the Old Testament—when Abraham was commanded by God to sacrifice his son Isaac on the mountain of Moriah. While traveling to the place of the sacrifice, alongside Isaac and two servants, Abraham is flooded with vivid memories from the years he and Sarah spent longing for the son they were promised—the son he must now lay upon the altar.

What is the movie about?
If you’re familiar with the Bible, you’ll probably have read this story in Genesis. It’s one of the most heart wrenching stories in the Bible, in my opinion.
In this story, God calls on Abraham to sacrifice his only son Isaac. This would be horrifying enough for any parent, but Abraham and his wife Sara had tried for years to have a baby and weren’t able.
Isaac is their only child, born late in their lives, so they will not ever have another. Despite this, Abraham begins a 3 day journey with his son Isaac to do what God had commanded.
This is the ultimate sacrifice.

His Only Son Review
If you enjoy historical dramas, this is the one movie you need to watch before Easter weekend. Easter is all about Jesus sacrifice but it’s also a good time to learn about others stories in the Bible that encourage us to follow God’s word even when it’s difficult.
I can’t imagine the anguish that Abraham and Sara were going through thinking about this during their journey. I have to believe that somewhere, they must have had a tiny doubt about actually doing it. But, they did even when it would tear their world apart.
The scenery was absolutely gorgeous and very true to what I think must have been real during that time period. I completely lost myself in the story, even though I knew how it would end. The experience was completely immersive.
This is a PG-13 movie due to the topic.

I like historic dramas and this is one of the most controversial scriptures that nonbelievers use to discredit the Bible. I’d love to watch this and be able to better explain to doubters who miss the whole point of this sacrifice.
