How Play Builds Resilience and Mental Health Awareness

A New Approach to Children’s Mental Health

Founded in October 2022, MESH Helps was created in response to growing concerns about children’s mental health. From social pressures to academic stress and increased screen time, today’s kids face unique challenges that can impact their emotional development. MESH Helps focuses on a simple but impactful solution: play. Through intentional, structured play experiences, children can build skills to navigate life’s ups and downs with confidence.

Bringing Play Into Everyday Spaces

From May 1 through May 8, families visiting more than 450 Chuck E. Cheese locations nationwide will get a firsthand look at how play supports emotional growth. During this week, curated video messages will appear on screens every hour, sharing insights into how play contributes to social-emotional development.

This collaboration brings mental health awareness into a familiar, family-friendly environment. By meeting families where they already are, MESH Helps makes it easier to introduce important concepts like emotional regulation, communication, and problem-solving in a natural, approachable way.

Expanding Access Through Libraries

The initiative continues throughout May with community-based outreach in partnership with approximately 300 libraries affiliated with the American Library Association. These libraries will feature MESH Helps resources alongside MESH-Accredited products, giving families access to tools that encourage resilience-building play at home and beyond.

Libraries have long been centers for learning, imagination, and connection. By incorporating these materials into local spaces, caregivers and librarians can introduce activities that support emotional development, from storytelling to interactive play that encourages creativity and critical thinking.

What Is MESH Accreditation?

A key component of this initiative is MESH Accreditation, a distinction awarded to products that support children’s emotional growth through play. These products are evaluated for their ability to help kids develop coping skills, build confidence, improve communication, and strengthen emotional understanding.

For parents navigating a crowded marketplace of toys and educational tools, this accreditation offers a trusted way to identify products that truly support a child’s development.

Why Play Matters

Play is more than entertainment—it’s essential to healthy development. Through play, children learn how to manage emotions, solve problems, and build relationships. They experiment, make mistakes, and try again in a safe environment, laying the foundation for resilience.

What makes Play for Resilience™ especially impactful is its accessibility. By partnering with well-known venues and local libraries, MESH Helps ensures families from a wide range of backgrounds can participate without needing specialized programs or expensive materials.

Small Moments, Lasting Impact

For caregivers, this initiative is a reminder that everyday moments matter. Whether it’s a board game, a shared story, or imaginative play, these interactions can have a lasting impact on a child’s emotional well-being.

As Mental Health Awareness Month continues, Play for Resilience™ highlights the power of simple, intentional connection. By blending education with fun, MESH Helps is helping families support their children in meaningful ways—one moment of play at a time.
