Room on the Broom DVD

This is a perfect movie for the Halloween season. The kids have already watched Room on the Broom three times and we have only had it for a week! Room on the Broom is an animated version of a popular British picture book by author Julia Donaldson. This rhyming story is about a witch and her cat who keep adding animals to her broom as she keeps losing objects during their flight. Her faithful cat does not take well to the joining “friends” and tries to keep the kind witch from adding more passengers.

A twist in the story comes when they are being chased by a dragon. This suspenseful part of the movie teaches the importance of accepting others and helping those in need. Find out how they join together to trick the dragon to save the witch.

The kids said their favorite part of the movie was how it all rhymed. After the third time of watching it, they were talking along with the narrator and having fun with remembering the lines. We also checked online and found out they have an adorable website as well that has a game app and an activities section too.

This short (27 minutes) film is perfect for children 4-8, but with the “scary” dragon added to the story, it might be too much for younger children. If you’ve already read the book to your child, they will be extra excited to watch this in animated form.

  1. We have a definite lack of Halloween movies in our collection (that are kid-friendly). Although this one may be a little young for mine, it will still give them something to watch without having nightmares!

  2. My grandsons own this DVD and love it! They probably watched it 30 times over the past week. I definitely recommend it!
