Superhero Sewing
I am far from an expert when it comes to sewing but I can handle a simple pattern. And, a homemade costume is so much better than a store-bought one.
Superhero Sewing is an adorable collection of sewing projects for creative playwear that encourages and satisfies your kids’ love of – and need for – unique and richly imaginative play.
Author Lane Huerta, a mom and the owner of Lovelane Designs, a noted maker of silk-screened playwear, shares her creative know-how and adapts her widely praised designs so you can create empowering stories and treasured memories with the favorite kids in your life.
So grab your scissors, fabric, and thread, and create fantastic characters for everyday play your kids can call their very own!
This informative and inspiring guide includes:
- An overview of essential tools, materials, and techniques
- 20 projects in five playful themes: superheroes, pirates, a fairy queen, and a dragon king, magicians, and woodland creatures
- Creative suggestions for color palettes and personalizing your playwear
- Full-size patterns for making reusable templates
My thoughts:
This is such a great book for those that want to make their children’s costumes. There are options for both boy and girl costumes in a variety of themes. Each pattern explains what you’ll need to create the costume as well as what patterns are included.
There are no super complicated patterns or expensive sewing items required. The basic terms are explained and the directions are very easy to follow for beginners. This book is definitely a great place to start.

I love sewing and superheros so really need to check this out. I like the costume variety, especially the woodland creatures. I bet they are easy to modify to a small adult like me too! I like that they are super easy patterns as well so they’ll sew up quickly.
I’m sure you could modify them!
