The Girl Who Saved ChristmasAs Christmas approaches, there are so many traditional stories for children to choose. The Girl Who Saved Christmas is a lovely twist on the traditional Night Before Christmas tale. Written by William Thomas Thach and illustrated by Richard Bernal this lovely Christmas story follows Molly and her pet mouse Mr. Nibbles through their Christmas Eve.

The Girl Who Saved Christmas

I love that the story depicts the frustration of the elves and Santa; they’re very upset that seemingly all of the world’s children have been naughty. Just when Santa has resigned himself to handing out only coal for Christmas he runs into Molly. After checking his list one last time he realizes that Molly has been good! In perhaps my favorite twist of the story Molly asks not for a gift for herself, but instead asks that Santa forgive all the other children for being bad. Of course Santa obliges her request; she melts his heart with her loving request. Now Molly and Mr. Nibbles must accompany Santa on his rush to give all the children presents because he has changed his mind!

Molly sacrifices her chance to have whatever she wants so that all the other children in the world might have a happy Christmas morning. Teaching self-sacrifice and empathy for others in a children’s book is delightful to see, especially during this time of year! The book has a fantastic message and is beautifully illustrated and designed. The red velvet cover is soft and gorgeous. The gold lettering inlaid against the velvet makes the book perfect for an annual Christmas tradition. There is a bookmark, a space to identify who owns the book, and on the very last page there is a space to write what you’d like for Christmas. Another feature of the book that I enjoyed immensely is the glossary! There’s a scroll shaped section near the back of the book that contains all of the more difficult words and their definitions in easy to understand descriptions. I love books that do this so that we have an easy way to explain more difficult words to little ones. Glossary sections are great for little ones who grow into young readers as they can investigate for themselves when they find words they do not understand.

The Girl Who Saved Christmas hit all of the high points for me as a reader. It is designed beautifully, contains a bright and meaningful message, and it has little extras that make it shine. The cover clasp easily snaps, and unsnaps for little fingers to help; the bookmark is perfect for busy little ones, and the interactive letter and intro make the book a perfect gift to start a yearly tradition. I love that after “The End” there’s a promise of more to come. Molly’s magical trip with Santa is said to be coming soon!

Featuring a red velvet cover, gold reading ribbon, and a privacy clasp, this book is a perfect Christmas gift for any young child! Author: William T Hach

I can’t wait to incorporate The Girl Who Saved Christmas into our yearly traditions and you won’t be disappointed if you decide to add it to yours!

This sounds interesting. Nothing about Christmas bored me,
After reading this, I hope I wouldn’t regret. I can’t wait to read and smile while reading it.

  2. I’d like to win this for my daughter. She loves to read and has asked for books for Christmas. I sure hope her love of reading continues. She was just in her Christmas play at school and would like that the book is Christmas themed.
