The Hill Review
Rickey grows up in a poor community in Texas. He wears braces on his legs due to a spinal disease so doing things like walking are a challenge let alone being able to run or play sports. His pastor tries to discourage him from pursuing his dream of playing baseball so that he doesn’t get hurt.
Rickey wants to try out for an important Major League Scout but his family feels he should make a safer choice like becoming a pastor. He’s torn between wanting to make his family happy and pursue his dreams. And, this tension shows up with a strained relationship with his father.
I love that this film is not only inspiring but realistic. It has an uplifting message but also shows real life struggles that Rickey experiences. It leaves you feeling good in a realistic way that encourages you to try to overcome your own challenges.
