Paw Print Snacks Recipe

So, let me be clear, these paw print snacks are dog-themed food for humans – not treats for your dog. There are so many puppy themed toys out right now that you can tell dogs and cats are popular with younger kids. These snacks are a fun after school treat for any child that loves their dog or cat. 

Of course, you can take this opportunity to encourage your child to join you in the kitchen to make these paw print snacks. So, you won’t need the oven at all for these snacks. But, there will be some stovetop use. So, if your child is too young to be near the stove, you can do that part and let them help with the rest. 

These paw print snacks are basically crispy rice treats. You will make the outside part from regular crispy rice cereal. You will make the inner portion from chocolate crispy rice cereal. There are a few mini chocolate chips placed on top to look like nails. And, then they are cut out with two different sized paw print sized cookie cutters.

How to cut out a paw print design

To cut out the paw print snacks, you will need two different sized cookie cutters. The larger one will be for the snack. You will use the smaller one for the paw print design inside the larger paw. You will also need a 13 x 9 baking sheet covered with waxed paper.  So, you will press the rice/marshmallow mixture into the pan. And, then use the cookie cutters to cut out the paw print design. Paw Print Snacks Recipe

If you have a child that loves dogs and cats, they will love this paw print snacks recipe that uses crispy rice cereal.

Prep Time 20 minutes

Total Time 20 minutes

Ingredients

• 6 cups crispy rice cereal
• 6 cups cocoa crispy rice cereal
• 2 (10 ounce) miniature marshmallows
• 6 tablespoons butter, divided
• Mini chocolate chip morsels
• Milk chocolate chip morsels

Instructions

1. Make two batches of crispy rice treats, one with regular crispy cereal and the other with cocoa crispy cereal. To make crispy rice treats:
2. Prepare a 13 x 9 baking sheet with wax paper and a spritz of non-stick cooking spray.
3. Melt butter in a large saucepan over low heat. When the butter is melted, add the marshmallows and melt, stirring constantly. Remove the saucepan from heat.
4. Fold in the cereal. Stir until the cereal is coated in the marshmallow.
5. Using a buttered spatula or greased wax paper evenly press mixture into a baking sheet. Cool completely. 
6. Use larger paw print cookie cutter to cut treats from the regular crispy rice treats. If the treats are loose, press additional crispy mixture into the cookie cutter before releasing the shape onto waxed paper. Reshape the remaining cereal in your baking pan until all is used. 
7. Use smaller paw print cookie cutter to cut treats from the cocoa crispy treats. 
8. Then, use the cookie cutter to remove the middle from the regular crispy treat. Push the cocoa crispy treat into the middle of the regular crispy treat.
9. Press mini chocolate chips into the claws of the smaller paw print. 
10. Press milk chocolate chips into the pad of the cocoa crispy treat and into the claws of the regular crispy treat.
11. Store in an airtight container. Best within 2 days.

Notes

Be sure to store them in an airtight container and separate the layers with waxed paper.
