Cockatoo, Too for National Bird Day

Last Updated on May 10, 2022 by ellen

Cockatoo, TooDid you know that January 5th was National Bird Day? Not only is January 5th a great day to remember our wild birds, it’s a great day to remember the birds we have as pets. One of the reasons that National Bird Day was created was to help educate people about birds and the fact that nearly 12 percent of the world’s 9,800 bird species may face extinction within the next century. A product was provided for this post, but the story is my own.

Cockatoo, Too Giveaway for National Bird Day

To help celebrate National Bird Day, I wanted to introduce you to a fun picture book for kids that is all about cockatoos: Cockatoo, Too. Two cockatoos meet two more cockatoos in tutus and two tutued toucans. And then two more! Can they all can-can? They can! The cockatoos and toucans join together for a dance and ask the reader: “Can you can-can too?” Bethanie Deeney Murguia’s fabulous book combines fantastically funny wordplay with lush, vibrant illustrations that will make readers want to can-can along!

Cockatoo, Too is an adorable hard-cover picture book that is written for children ages 3 to 6. The book will be a wonderful choice for those that are learning to read as well as those that enjoy rhyming. The watercolor like illustrations are adorable and the bright colors and fun cockatooks will definitely keep your child engaged. I love the play on words between Cockatoo, Too, Two and Tutus. When you add in a few Tutued toucans, the story just gets even more fun.

Bethanie Deeney Murguia graduated from the School of Visual Arts in New York City with an MFA in Illustration and has created numerous picture books, including Zoe Gets Ready, Snippet the Early Riser, and I Feel Five. She now lives in the San Francisco Bay area with her two daughters and her dog Disco. To learn more about Bethanie, please visit her website: aquapup.com.

  1. My soon to bee 3 year old niece loves animals and enjoys books. Cockatoo, Too would be an excellent addition to her library of books.

  2. I love the colorful cockatoo and have one as a social media avatar–makes me smile every time. They are so pretty and a great conversation starter for shy kids.

  3. As a former children’s librarian, I like to keep up with the new books that are coming out. More importantly, I have a 4 year old granddaughter that enjoys books and it will be one I can share with her. This looks like a fun and educational book to read and one she will enjoy.

  4. My kids love animals but one thing we don’t have is many bird books so it would be nice to win this so they could have a bird storybook!

  5. My daughter would love this! We saw a few parrots over the weekend and she was very excited about how colorful they were!
