Living in rural Vermont, bears are something we see fairly regularly.  They live in the woods in our backyard and occasionally destroy bird feeders in the neighborhood. But, it’s a lot different seeing bears in their natural habitat than it is catching a glimpse of them in the backyard.  Disneynature Bears goes to Alaska to follow Sky, the mom, and her two cubs, Scout and Amber, through their first year.  You’ll catch your first glimpse as they are still in the den after being born.   Then you’ll get to watch them head down the mountain from their den toward the fields and then the water as they try to catch the salmon on their way to spawn.   Then their journey ends as they head back to dig a den to hibernate through the next winter.

There are some dangerous moments when predators try to catch and kill the cubs and a few times where I thought they might have been successful. Thankfully, that didn’t happen.  I love how the narrator truly made the bears’ personalities shine.  I really could identify with Sky as a mom and you could almost see how frustrated with the cubs she was sometimes.  Amber was adorable and definitely a little girl that wanted to stay near her mom. She was much more shy than Scout who was a little terror sometimes.

If you enjoy nature movies, you will definitely love this Disneynature Bears DVD.  It’s definitely fun for the whole family.
