I have wonderful memories of when my son was little playing with LEGOs.  We had little LEGO pieces all over every floor in the house. You couldn’t walk in the playroom without stepping on them.

Depending on the day, we had houses, castles, and Indian forts.  I was excited to learn that The LEGO Movie was coming out on Blu-ray/DVD so I could relive all those fun times.

The LEGO® Movie, the first-ever, full-length theatrical LEGO® adventure, directed by Phil Lord & Christopher Miller is an original 3D computer-animated story that follows Emmet, an ordinary, rules-following, perfectly average LEGO mini-figure who is mistakenly identified as the most extraordinary person and the key to saving the world.

He is drafted into a fellowship of strangers on an epic quest to stop an evil tyrant, a journey for which Emmet is hopelessly and hilariously underprepared.

Lego Movie Review

Emmet is a pretty ordinary LEGO guy. He has an average job as a construction worker and an average life and goes through the day following the rules.  He is identified as the “Special” LEGO guy who will save the world from President Business’s plans to destroy it.

His life turns upside down as he gets drawn into an adventure. President Business has made all of the individual LEGO worlds separate and you can only build certain things. President Business thinks that creativity is bad and he is going to use the Kragle to stop it unless Emmet and his friends can stop him first.

LEGO characters in the movie include superheroes, sports players, Lord of the Rings, etc. It’s fun to see the different characters interacting together and to visit the different LEGO worlds in the movie.

Who will enjoy this?

While The LEGO Movie is intended for children, adults will pick up a lot of things that the kids will miss.  If you really pay attention, you may see how similar some of the things going on in the movie are to our own lives.  You may also notice that President Business is a lot like “Big Brother” who wants everyone to do only what they are supposed to do and wants everyone to be the same to avoid problems. Of course, the kids won’t notice this. They’ll notice the cool CGI effects, the bouncy music, and the fun characters.

Whether you’re a child or a child at heart, you will definitely enjoy The LEGO movie.  It’s a fun summer movie and the “Everything is Awesome” Edition that I received has the Blu-ray + DVD + Digital Download along with the exclusive Vitruvius LEGO Minifigure.  I love the little LEGO figure.  Such fun and a definite bonus to the movie.

  1. I am definitely a child at heart and love movies like this. I prefer these movies to what is on television and I look forward to seeing this one. Thanks for sharing.

  2. My son AND my husband can’t stop singing that dumb song…AAAHHH!! ha/ha Dylan loved this movie and when the price drops, we can hopefully get him one! 🙂 Great post Ellen!

  3. I go back even further than LEGOs and can remember playing with my uncle’s Lincoln Logs! Can’t wait to see this. It has good reviews. I won a copy on another blog so hopefully it’s in the mail to me.

  4. I haven’t seen that one yet. I need to. Stepping on legos is the absolute worst! So painful! It seems many kids movies are adding bits that only adults would pick up. Trying to keep everyone engaged I guess.
