Mimi’s Baking Adventure by Alyssa Gangeri

Mimi’s Baking Adventure is a fun children’s picture book about a little girl who makes chocolate chip cookies with her grandmother. They walk through the ingredients and the baking process and then share the recipe at the end of the book so you can make the cookies yourself. This was a fun read with bright, colorful illustrations that any child is sure to enjoy.

Since my husband is a huge fan of chocolate chip cookies, I decided to make a batch of Mimi’s Chocolate Chip Cookies:

  • 2 1/4 cups all purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups chocolate chips
  • 2 eggs

Directions:

  1. Pre-heat oven to 325F. Place the soft butter and both sugars in a mixing bowl. Mix until smooth and creamy.
  2. Add the eggs and vanilla extract until they are halfway incorporated into your butter mixture.
  3. While the mixer is off, add the flour, salt, baking soda, and chocolate chips.
  4. Place on low speed. Continue to mix until the dough comes together.
  5. Prepare a cookie sheet with parchment paper. Place scoops of cookie dough two inches apart.
  6. Bake in 325F oven for 8-10 minutes or until they begin to brown around the edges.

If you’d like to have your child help you more in the kitchen, Mimi’s Baking Adventure is a fun way to do it. Plus, the cookies are delicious!
