There are so many different things to do during the autumn months. Why not pack up these books about fall and head outside for a picnic lunch in the leaves?
Or, here are some stories for kids that you may enjoy reading together as a family.

Outdoor Fall Activities for Toddlers
There are lots of different things that you can do outside during the autumn. Some ideas are simple enough to do in your own backyard.
Other ideas, you may need to head to your local park. Or, you could visit a farm or farmstand in your area as well. Check out these fall family fun ideas.
Go apple picking
Depending on your child’s age, you can head to your local apple orchard to pick apples. If you don’t want to let your child climb with you, they can hold the basket at the bottom or pick up drops from the ground.
If you don’t have these types of outdoor fall activities for toddlers in your area, try heading to the store to buy a bag of apples. Then, make a pie or cobbler when you get home.
Nature activities for kids
Collect leaves
If you have enough trees in your backyard, you can spend time seeing how many different colors or types of leaves ou can find. Or, you can head to a local park if there aren’t enough in your area.
Once you’ve collected those leaves, why not try a few fall leaf crafts.
Go to a corn maze
Almost every year, we head to our local corn maze. Farmers let their cornfields sit and create mazes through the dried corn. We grab a map with a few clues and head out to see if we can find our way through.
This is one of those outdoor fall activities for toddlers that you may need to drive to find.
Visit a pumpkin patch
Let the kids help pick out your pumpkin this year. If you don’t have a pumpkin patch where you can pick your own, visit a local farmstand or store that has displays of pumpkins and let them pick.
Go for a hike in the woods
See what types of nature you can find on a local hiking trail. Or, look for a bike trail and just enjoy time outside.
Decorate your front door
Let the kids help you decorate the front door with autumn flowers, pumpkins, bales of hay, and a new wreath. Or, if you don’t have a wreath, let them make this fall leaf craft.
Outdoor learning activities for kids
Go on a scavenger hunt
How many different things can your child find outside? Just a few ideas of things to include are certain color leaves, acorns, pinecones, and flower pods. Or, if they are very young, you can try teaching them all about autumn colors instead.
Do a tree rubbing
One of my favorite outdoor autumn activities for toddlers is tree rubbing. This is so much fun!
Take a large piece of kraft paper and some twine and wrap it around a tree. Give your child a crayon and let them rub against the bark.
Do this with several different trees. Then, compare the different textures and designs that each tree makes.
Inside autumn activities
After a run day outside, here are a few inside fall activities you can do together. And, you may want to check out this fall tissue paper craft.
