Stop Motion Animation
Stop motion animation is a film technique where the objects that are being photographed are moved a tiny amount between each photo. Then, the photos are strung together so that it looks like the object is really moving. If you’re familiar with the children’s show Gumby, it was made using this technique.
The Stikbot Zanimation Studio Pets has a Stikbot, Stikbot Junior, Stikpet, 2 prop boxes, and a tripod to hold your smartphone. You will need to download the free app, Stikbot Studio.
You assemble one of the prop boxes and place the Stikbot characters in it in whichever poses you want them to have. Then, you take a series of photos using your phone changing the characters slightly between each photo. Then you play the video to show the pictures one after the other to see them move. You can also choose a variety of different backgrounds so they can be in different places from the Eifel Tower to a spaceship.
My thoughts
This is a really fun way to learn how to make stop motion videos. The characters have suction cup hands and feet so that you can pose them in a variety of different poses. You can also add music or video to your creations which makes it even more fun.
All in all, it only took me a few minutes to get the hang of using the Stikbot Zanimation Studio Pets kit to make a cool video. Granted, it’s pretty basic but you get the idea. You could easily make each of the characters move all at once to make a more complicated scene. This is definitely a toy that will keep the kids busy for quite a while.
