There are lots of St. Patrick’s Day crafts for kids that you can do. But, if you want something a little bit different salt painting is a fun technique to learn.
Letting the kids get crafty encourages problem-solving skills and it helps them to think outside of the box. Have you had a chance to try these animal crossing crafts?
Of course, the shamrock is a big symbol of St. Patrick’s Day along with the leprechaun, his pot of gold, and a rainbow. So, if you’re looking for something fun to do for St. Patrick’s Day, a shamrock craft is a great option.
There are lots of ways that you can make a shamrock. You can dip your index finger in green paint and make a fingerprint shamrock. Or, you can make a shamrock craft with green construction paper with a shamrock template.
What is salting painting?
Adding salt to paint is a fun way to create new types of images. When you combine the salt and the paint, the salt soaks up the watercolor from your brush.
When you combine glue with paint and salt, you have a fun painting technique that leaves behind a puffy, textured raised design.

What age is this shamrock craft for?
If your child is old enough to hold a paintbrush and trace, they can do this project with supervision. It would easily work for ages 3 and up. And, it’s OK if they don’t trace the shamrock perfectly. It’s all about learning.

Can I make another design?
You definitely can. I have provided a shamrock template for you to download, print, and trace. But, if you want to, you could write their name or draw a flower or make a dinosaur. If you can draw it, they can trace it.
What kind of paint should I use?
You need to use a watercolor palette for the paint to spread properly. This shamrock craft won’t come out properly with another type of paint. You don’t need to use a specific brand of paint. You should be able to head to Walmart or the dollar store and find a watercolor palette in their craft section.
Can I use paper instead of cardstock?
I really recommend cardstock for this shamrock craft project. Standard white paper like copy paper isn’t thick enough. And, it will probably bleed through and make a mess.
